Fort Dance 2006

Washington-based DJ duo Deep Dish have been announced as the headliner’s of Russia’s nuttiest dance event Fort Dance. Fort Dance takes place on Saturday 29th July 2006 in a 19th century military fort located off the coast of St. Petersburg, a location that’s only accessible by boat or helicopter.

Now in its 7th year, Fort Dance has grown to become one of Russia’s best dance music parties, and this year will feature some of the world’s top DJs, as well as improved sound and lighting.

The organisers have gone out of their way to make this year’s Fort Dance the best one yet, and have announced that there will be private hire rooms in the dungeons of Fort Alexander 1, which each come with their own topless dancers.

A Free London Calling Ticket?

London Calling are offering free tickets to their dance music event at Earls Court, which runs on Thursday 29th and Friday 30th June.

Over 450 record labels will be present at the networking event, as well as some of the world’s most important music and DJ equipment companies, such as Juno, Myspace, EMI, Ministry of Sound, Pioneer, Ableton, Computer DJ, Positiva, Ninja Tunes, and DJmag, of course.

Loveparade is back!

After a two year hiatus the world’s biggest electronic music celebration returns to Berlin’s streets complete with its DJ floats and messages of peace, love, and unity. Based on previous estimates, over a million clubbers are expected to attend this year’s Loveparade on 15th July 2006, which has 40 moving soundsystems, and ten stages.

A message posted on the Loveparade’s website by its organisers read: “After the disappointing cancellations of the 2004 and 2005 Loveparades, finally the biggest open-air party of modern electronic music again becomes THE cultural event, as well as the cult event it is known for internationally.”

Trance Awards 2006

This year the 2nd Annual Trance Awards, which are being presented by Judge Jules, will now be taking place on Saturday June 24. This ceremony has been brought together by Gods Kitchen, MTV Dance, Mixmag and some of the most important record labels and community websites on the planet to create the ultimate celebration of the international trance scene.

Therefore to complement this change of date, the Godskitchen team have added Marcel Woods and Sander Van Doorn to the line-up as they have revolutionised trance music over the last 12 months.

DMC DJ World Championships 2006

The search for the world’s best scratch turntablist will begin this week in the UK, with the first heats of the annual DMC World DJ Championship taking place across the country.

The first heat takes place in Liverpool on 12th May at Magnet. Later on, Newcastle will host a DMC 2006 heat the following night at The Other Rooms, whilst Leeds’ The Wardrobe will see aspiring scratch DJs battle it out on 14th May.

The Fez club in Cambridge will host a DMC DJ battle heat on 18th May, before the championship moves southwards to London’s Fabric on 19th May.

After that, Nottingham, Brighton, Bournemouth, Bristol, Reading, and Birmingham will host heats, before the UK final takes place at Hammersmith Palais on 6 July.

Tiësto Concert Death

DJ Tiësto’s recent tour of Indonesia was struck by tragedy after a clubber died of a drug overdose at his concert in the capital city Jakarta. The young man, who has not been named due to his family’s wishes, died on 22nd April 2006 after apparently taking six ecstasy pills.

At first, the organisers of Tiësto’s Indonesia tour refused to comment on the death because they claimed his family did not want any publicity.

Goodbye DJ Precision!

Pascal van Eijk (DJ Precision) is a versatile man. He has been spinning records since the early age of 17. Besides being a DJ, he’s also producer and label owner, not to mention all the other things he has done in the past.

It’s sad news for the trance scene as today sources have indicated to us that DJ Precision has decided to put an end to his career in DJing. There’s no information as to why Pascal has decided to stop DJing and hopefully soon we will find out the exact reason.

South West Four Launch

It was one of the biggest success stories of last year, and for 2006 looks likely to be the best dance music event during the August Bank Holiday Weekend.

South West Four festival, organised in conjunction with Metro newspaper, had a successful launch on Saturday 15 April 2005 with 4000 clubbers packing into Brixton Academy to see Carl Cox and Mr. C tear it up.

This year the South West Four festival features Paul Oakenfold, John Digweed, James Zabiela, Sander Kleinenberg, and Desyn Masiello alongside its DJ ambassador Carl Cox on the 10,000 capacity outdoor main stage.

BBC Radio 1 stalwart Pete Tong will join the likes of Seb Fontaine, Steve Lawler, Danny Howells, and Nic Fancuilli in a second arena, whilst trancers Judge Jules, Mauro Picotto, Fergie, Ian Betts, Sander Van Doorn and Matt Hardwick will DJ in a third tent.

Creamfields 2006

Creamfields will take place this year on Saturday 26 August at Daresbury, Halton, near Liverpool, and will feature an eclectic blend of dance music acts and DJs. The Prodigy are headlining the mainstage, alongside Gnarls Barkley, Goldfrapp, and The Zutons.

The world’s no.1 DJ as voted in DJmag’s Top 100 DJs poll 2005, Paul van Dyk, will be playing in the 10,000 capacity Cream & Goodgreef arena alongside Ferry Corsten, Tiësto, Paul Oakenfold, Eddie Halliwell, Armin van Buuren, Marco V and Adam Sheridan.
